Informational & Instructional Classes
Childbirth classes are strongly encouraged to help you prepare for your childbirth experience. Class presentations and discussions will include such topics as signs and stages of labor, anesthesia and pain management options, the role of the birthing coach, mother-infant care, and a presentation by a pediatrician. Relaxation and breathing techniques are also taught and practiced to help you work with your labor.
Please feel free to ask anyone in the office for more information on classes, including dates and times that they are offered. We have brochures available for some of the courses. Be sure to register early for the classes you want, as they fill up very quickly.
Provena St. Joseph Hospital no longer accommodates obstetrics. When you are in labor, please do not go to Provena St. Joseph Hospital for this reason. We are on staff at Sherman Hospital and would ask that you go to Sherman for delivery.
Classes
Several classes and support groups are offered through Sherman Hospital.
Newborn classes, breastfeeding support groups and sibling classes are just naming a few. They also offer classes on CPR and Diabetes Education.

- Birthing Center Tour
Discover why almost 3,000 families choose Sherman’s Birthing Center each year. This tour is offered two Monday evenings a month. One registration per couple! If tour full, please call for waiting list. - Breastfeeding Class
Class features helpful information for pregnant women that plan to breastfeed. $30.00 per couple. Coaches are encouraged to attend. IF FULL, CALL FOR WAITING LIST...Check frequently for new classes being added. - Childbirth Classes
6-Week Session held for 6 consecutive evenings at Sherman Hospital. 85.00 per couple. Emphasis is on education and breathing techniques.
One day childbirth education class for couples that cannot attend the six-week series. Offered once a month at Sherman Hospital 95.00 per couple.
